About 30 miles to the east of San Juan on Route 3 and adjacent to the
town of the same name is beautiful Luquillo Beach. The most famous of Puerto
Rican beaches, it sits in a crescent-shaped bay edged by a vast coconut
grove, which makes it the best beach in Puerto Rico and one of the finest
in the Caribbean. Coral reefs protect the crystal-clear lagoon from the
often fierce Atlantic waters that batter this coast. The majestic stand
of coconut palms shade more than a mile of white sandy beach..The Yunque
is plainly visible towards the south. The Balneario is quite crowded
during the weekends. Before entering the beach many stop at any one of
the roadside thatched huts that sell delicious Puerto Rican snacks such
as bacalaítos or alcapurrias.
